I don't think about geese more than I think about most other creatures. I admire them when I see them, but I'm used to seeing them in their natural environment. If I, hypothetically speaking, walked out of my front door and saw a parade of geese coming down my street here in Austin... well... I'd hope I'd have my video camera poised and ready for a moment like that. Because this guy was.

This YouTube user didn't have to do much traveling to see a parade of geese--they came to him. Or, rather, they came to his street. Check out this short but entertaining video featuring running geese. After researching for a while now, I can't find a hard fact explaining why these geese were running. My guess is that this video was staged. If you know why these geese were running, or if you have a guess, please share it with us here in the comments..

I recently spent 10 days exploring Northern California, magnetized by every patch of Redwood trees I saw. This wasn't my first trip to the area and it won't prove to be my last, either. There's something especially magnificent Redwood trees. The limits of their growth are widely still unknown, but at their recorded tallest height (379 feet), the Giant Redwood (Sequoia sempervirens) family includes the tallest trees on Earth.

Although I've been home for a couple of days now from the trip, I'm still finding myself at the mercy of web searches related to these trees. An admittedly semi-mindless YouTube trolling session this evening brought me to this well-shot and knowledgeable video focusing on Albino Redwoods. These special trees baffle scientists. All I can think is... I wish I'd made a point to check out these ghost-like trees in person. If you'll be in Redwood territory soon, take note.

Ah, Dublin. Home to Guinness, a Leprechaun museum, an absurdly tall spire and the famous / infamous Temple Bar quarter. It's also home to around 300 days of cloudy or rainy weather, which begs the question: why are you fixing to fork out hundreds, possibly thousands more just to visit in the summer? There's no question that the weather in Europe is far more palatable in the spring and summer months, but it's also shockingly expensive. A flight to anywhere within the EU jumps up by orders of magnitude as soon as you select June, July or August as your departure date and in the case of Ireland, there's really no need to hand over extra to an airline when you could be spending those ~~dollars~~ Euros on attractions, pub food and better hotels. Yesterday, HRH Prince Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalif of the Kingdom of Bahrain made the decision to cancel the opening race of the 2011 Formula 1 championship. The current unrest in the Kingdom made it impossible to ensure the safety of the thousands of visitors, and the country is still recovering from a week of turmoil.

HRH Prince Salman issued the following statement:

"After the events of the past week, our nation's priority is on overcoming tragedy, healing divisions and rediscovering the fabric that draws this country together; reminding the world of the very best that Bahrain is capable of as a nation once again united."

Because of this, the 2011 season won't start till the Qantas Australian Grand Prix in Melbourne on March 25th through the 27th. As of right now, the Bahrain race has not been rescheduled.
